Yay for Bob Haro! More info on his radness here.
We are now offering a 5% discount on everything all the time, starting now, if you pay cash. This is our attempt to curtail the evil, evil credit card companies and their many fees. We get charged less, and you get a discount; a lovely win-win situation, I’d say.
Starting March 1st, we will also have a workbench for rental by the hour in Charlie’s Cave. It’s $15/hr, with a shop quality stand and a peg board full of tools. We might even hook a stereo up for you. Grease, rags, El Duke, and cats are provided; expertise and parts are not.
Karl here will not assist you in your repairs, but he will be judging you.
We’re back to work, and are offering classes throughout January and February:
We are once again offering maintenance classes, starting 1/12/11; each class runs from 6:30-8:30pm at the shop. $40 each, or $160 for the whole series (that’s one free class, in case you were checking). Students get a 15% discount on all purchases day of class as well. What a swell deal!

Fix flats, clean the drivetrain, and other basics. Great for beginners!
1/19: Brakes
Learn the different kinds and their uses; recabling and adjusting.
1/26: Drivetrain
Chain wear discussions, derailleur adjustments, recabling and installation.
2/2: Bearing Surfaces
This class covers most bearing surfaces: headset, bottom bracket and hubs. Overhauling, adjusting, and other sundry tips and tricks
2/9: Wheels
Truing, building, dish, vertical and lateral planes, and why. Demystification.
All classes are by RSVP only. Please call the shop @ 312.225.3780 or email @ bluecitycycles@gmail.com to register!
Free cat petting with every class!
We are closing for our annual vacation/staycation starting 12/25/10. We will reopen 1/12/10 for normal Winter hours.
So, to help us with our inventory count, you, our dear customers can enjoy 25% off EVERYTHING in the store. Seriously. Get it out of here!
We will be closed on 11-25 for T-Day (‘T’ for either Turkey or Tofurkey, as the case may be). We will probably be open on the following Friday, 11-26, for normal (or normal-ish) hours, but this really depends on how motivated/full we’re feeling still.
Happy Gorging!
Starting 11/8/10, we will be going to our Winter Hours:
Mon/Tues: Closed
Wed/Thurs: 11-7
Fri: 11-5
Sat: 10-6
Sun: 12-4
We are also running a sale until Christmas on all in stock bikes: 25% off any new, in stock model, OR a free Kryptonite U-lock and helmet with a new bike purchase. We’re swimming in bikes! Come help us out! (Look for the ad in the Gazette and the Reader soon!)
Way back in July, our basement was flooded in an epic storm; luckily, only a small-ish pile of goods took the brunt of it. Once waterlogged, these boxes of slightly damaged goodies are now up for grabs. There are u-locks, seats, a couple helmets, many rolls of bar tape, and a few sundry other bits on super-clearance. So come on it and snap ‘em up! When they’re gone, they’re gone!
Thanks to our friend Lawrence Ramos at CPD’s District 9 and the lovely Joyce Rice (www.teenyrobots.net), we now have a convenient wallet sized card that pairs traffic violations against bicyclists and their corresponding police code. Handy for the next time you have a run in, as you can just whip it out of your pocket and show your friendly officer exactly what to write on the ticket. (Obviously, this assumes that you have been the perfect bike angel, obeying all traffic laws, and aren’t owed a ticket yourself!)
We have a stack of them printed up and available to take at the shop, but you’re welcome to print this out as well.
